Those Left Standing (In personae Christi)
- A Poem by Eleanor Glenn

Dearest Ireland,

We, as Catholics, can be harsh, critical and demanding,
But having toured this incredibly beautiful land,
Do not judge "Those Left Standing".

Yes, 'tis true, the horrors are many,
And those guilty will be tried.
But do not be swayed by media vengeance
For there is another side.

"Those Left Standing" are the finest of men
Who continue day after day
To celebrate your Masses, to
Baptize your babies
To give you comfort in every way.

They get up each morning
And go about God's work
Regardless of spit or jeers
They visit your sick and bury your dead
They console and dry your tears.

"Those Left Standing" have told me
"No matter what the media say,
I will not flee, I'll do God's work,
Tis here, in Ireland, I'll stay!".

"In personae Christi"
Those " Left Standing" continue to stand.
Here, in dearest Ireland
Where Catholicism feeds your land.

Dearest Ireland,
Rise up when you meet "Those Left Standing"
Your finest men 'tis true.
I beg you, Dearest Ireland
Rise Up -
And say, "Thank You!".
